Vacuuming tips

Can you imagine a life without all of the conveniences we take for granted today like refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioning, electric lights, and vacuum cleaners?

It was only around a century ago that those things were either rare or just being invented, and that meant a pretty hard life for the people of that time!

Now we just switch on the device we want to run and away we go! A big mess? No stress, just get out the vacuum cleaner and ZOOM!

Back in those bad old days, you would have had to clean your carpet by dragging it outside and then beating the heck out of it with a rug beater to shake the dust and debris free from it! Don’t be downwind!

The invention of bagged vacuum cleaners made a big difference in the lives of homeowners, now you could have wall-to-wall carpet permanently installed without having to take it outside to beat it!

While vacuuming is fairly effortless when compared to the alternatives, there are still some tricks that can help you get the most out of your efforts!

1. Dust First

Get out your feather duster and tickle that furniture until it’s clean and shiny again, using a cleaning spray to mop it up with.

Otherwise, the dust and debris sticking to it will fall onto your carpet and be even harder to dislodge.

2. Room Prep

If there is any furniture in the way then move it to where it won’t be!

You probably don’t need to do this step every time you vacuum, but once every few months you should make a point to apply some cleaning tips and tricks. You should clean the entire carpet, even what’s under the furniture.

Make sure to pick up any small items you don’t want to suck up, I’m looking at you, Legos!

Those small objects can damage the vacuum cleaner’s mechanisms, not to mention the nasty noise they make!

3. Check Your Bag

When was the last time you replaced your bag? Is it already so full it can’t hold anymore?

If you don’t have a new replacement, then you can just empty the bag and reuse it, best to do that outside because it can be a messy process!

To reuse it, just cut the end off with a pair of scissors, dump the contents, and staple the bag shut again! This is not something you should do too often, eventually the old, worn-out bag might pop and you will be stuck with an even bigger mess!

4. Plot Your Course

It’s best to have a simple course laid out before you begin.

Start at the far end of the room furthest from the door or entryway. Work your way forward from right to left, then reverse that over and over again until you reach the door.

It’s best to make two passes, the first usually doesn’t catch everything. Make sure to use your attachments for tricky spots like corners and carpeted stairways!

We can’t make vacuuming fun for you, it’s a big job, but we do hope this makes it go a bit smoother, and that it only sucks in a good way!
